Live Your Purpose!
Posted on July 10th, 2011 3 commentsVictor Frankl psychologist and author of man’s search for meaning said; “Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone’s task is unique as his specific opportunity to implement it.
As a young boy I had a poster on the wall in my room. It was a picture of a very busy and crowded city street. The city was full of confusion. People everywhere, crowded streets, with signs and billboards. The words across the top of the poster ask the question. Why am I here? My question to you is why are you here? What is your purpose on this earth? Maybe you’ve ask yourself that question before. Maybe you know your purpose but you’ve never made the decision to act on it.
Peter Drucker says; “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” The majority of people never live a life of purpose because it takes hard work and discipline. Most people just settle for what comes along. They live the life of quiet desperation. They talk about what they should do and dream big dreams, but never go forward. A life without action is a life without purpose.
Success has been studied and researched for years. We have more information on success today than ever before and one outstanding similarity is that the winners in life all have a major definite purpose.
You see, it’s your purpose that keeps you in a forward motion. Your purpose gives you momentum. We need to know that we are growing and making a contribution. Each time you reach a goal your self-esteem will grow and then you’ll build on that accomplishment, like an avalanche it will grow as it pushes forward.
That’s why winners have goals and a major purpose for their life. Tony Robbins says, “People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them.” Some people have a goal to get up and go to work. Go back home set down in front of the television have a couple of beers and go to bed, only to do the same thing the next day and the next day and the next day. If you don’t have a major purpose in your life, you will always be bound under the power of the people who do. I believe that many people you find in hospitals, prisons, and in the court system are without a major definite purpose. Without purpose you have no compelling future to look forward to.
Without a compelling future you give up on life and find yourself in a state of mind that’s not productive. And through the law of attraction you attract more depression and more of the things you really don’t want. Without a compelling future, people turn to drugs and alcohol to change their state of mind which is only a temporary solution and then it’s repeated over and over.
I worked as an EMT in my twenties and witnessed people without a compelling future many times. On one occasion we got a call to a railroad crossing in a little out of the way country town. The call was that a train hit a man on the track. As I was driving to the scene I was trying to imagine what to expect. I was thinking of different scenarios in my mind. We didn’t know if this person was alive, if they were in a vehicle or what. So I was trying to prepare myself for action.
When we got there I could see the end of the train way down the track and a figure of a body laying on the track about thirty feet away from the crossing. Then I realized that it was a man that had been ran over by this train. We later found out by a witness that this man had set there on the tracks for hours drinking beer waiting on this train. And just at the last second as the train was roaring down the track this man stood up in front of the train and his life ended in a tragic way.
I have no doubt that this man had no definite purpose in his life to look forward to. If you’re not growing in this life you’re dying. This world will eliminate you just as nature eliminates plants and animals. Think about all the things in your world that at one time served a purpose that you no longer have. You’ve gotten rid of those things because they no longer serve your needs. If you don’t know your major purpose in life, that’s ok. Most people don’t know what their purpose is. It has been estimated that only about three percent of the population ever have clear goals in life. As you learn to set small goals that are consistent with your values you will begin to see your purpose unfold.
Some people decide on a purpose at an early age, some wait much later. Col. Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC as they call it today in his sixties. He said; “I made a resolve then that I was going to amount to something if I could. And no hours, nor amount of labor, nor amount of money would deter me from giving the best that there was in me.”
“Have the courage to live. Anyone can die.”
… Robert Cody
I am sure that every religion known to man all has one thing in common, that would be faith. Faith is about living your life and going forward without all the answers.
Faith allows you the freedom from being held back by worry, doubt and fear. You may find it hard to have faith, and to believe in yourself when people around you try to cut you down with words of discouragement. No matter what others say about you, your plans, your dreams, or your vision, faith in yourself has to remain. You lose the power of confidence when you forsake your faith and belief in yourself. Never allow others to shake your belief or faith. Having faith in yourself releases you from the opinions of others. The only opinion that’s important is the opinion you have of yourself.
Without the belief in yourself you’ll never find the confidence to overcome fear and challenges when the time arises. Any good fisherman will tell you that the best lure you have is the lure you have the most confidence in. The best martial artist will also tell you the best technique they have is the one they have the most confidence in. That is the same belief and confidence you need for yourself.
Without it; how can you sell an idea, communicate your needs, elicit help from others along your journey?

Your Greatness with Dr. Ike
Posted on February 14th, 2010 7 commentsHello…This week it is my pleasure to have Dr. Ike as a guest on my blog.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~So here is Dr. IkeI recently had the privilege of hearing Dr. Tim Irwin speak at an event where I served as the Master of Ceremony/Speaker. Tim has interviewed over 10,000 people in his career as an organizational psychologist and as an international consultant. He made this amazing statement, “I have never interviewed or talked with anyone who did not have, at their core, a desire to be great.” His observation is that everyone is passionate about something and I would concur.
Each day most Americans get up and go to jobs where they have no passion. As a consequence, they will not achieve greatness. On average, they will spend 60-65% of their waking hours toiling at jobs where they have no sense of engagement. Gallup did a study a few years ago where they interviewed 1.7 million workers representing 77,000 companies and/or divisions. They asked the question, “Are you engaged in your job?” The response was startling in the level of honesty and the state of affairs in American business:
- 55% felt no degree of engagement or sense of passion for their jobs.
- 16% responded that not only were they not engaged in their jobs, they described themselves as actively disengaged. Jim Collins, author of Good to Great, calls these people, OBT – On-Board Terrorists. They work for you but they are attempting to blow up the company by disrupting the culture of the organization.
Add up the two statistics and you get a 71% disconnect rate – meaning that only 29% of workers have any degree of passion for their jobs. It is impossible to have greatness when your passion is at room temperature.
So, how can you be great at your job?
- Find the work where your skills and the world’s needs intersect and you will find passion.
- If you are in job that you do not like, do your best work anyway and your day will come.
- Being great in your work means that you have discovered meaning in the work that you do each day.
- Focus on the meaning of your work and you will operate at your highest and best rather than your lowest and least.
- Being great at your job happens when you become more concerned about your contributions rather than your rewards.
If you are an employer, remember: People will work harder for meaning than they ever will for money!

Reborn For Success In The New Year!
Posted on December 19th, 2009 3 commentsReborn For Success In The New Year!

As we see the end of a new year let’s take a moment to look back and reflect over the past 12 months.
Was the past 12 months a busy time for you? Was the past 12 months rewarding or was it a tough time for you in your business? Did you keep your job?
Did you have some health issues in your family as I did? Did you lose any faith or trust for the government and the Whitehouse?
I only hope that the past year was very good to you and I also hope that you will create and achieve massive success in the next 12 months.
The great thing about a New Year is that we can all look at the New Year as fresh and have excitement for the New Year. A new year marks a new beginning for dreams and goals.
Friends Gone.
As I reflect I think about the people and old friends that died over the last 12 months. We lost a great man and a pioneer in the Personal Development Field, Mr. Jim Rohn. Jim Rohn’s work and words helped so many people find massive success in their own business and in their lives. I lost some friends that I’ve known for years and years in the past few months.
If we live long enough we will see our friends leave us as time goes by. That is only a fact of life that we must deal with.
I’ve heard people say that we should live like we were dying. And I’ve had people ask; what would you do if you only had 6 months to live? All good things to ponder on and reflect about… it may make you a better person. It may help you to think about some of the things you didn’t do or the things you need to do.
I’m sure it was Mark Twain who said; we regret all the things we didn’t do more that the things we did.
Now, I like to ask the people I coach and mentor this question. What would you do if you knew you had a new life, a new beginning and a clean slate to create the life you want and deserve?
You have that new day today if you choose! No need for regret! No need to think about all the things that you’re not doing.
Start today to think about all the things you plan to do starting in the New Year. Forget all the things you tried to do or the things you intended to do in the past and make plans for your NEW LIFE!
Most important.
Inertia is the best way to live a life of regret. You must take ACTION on all you ideas, intentions and goals to continue to move forward. Find that person that will hold you accountable and keep you on task. Those people (Mastermind Group) that will help guarantee you to create that massive success and find your true greatness for years to come.
Happy New Year!!!
Let’s meet 12 months from now and reflect again on the things we made happen…without regret!

Christmas & Toastmasters International
Posted on December 5th, 2009 7 commentsI remember a long time ago in a Toastmasters meeting I made a mistake.
Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International is an organization that helps people to speak in public. Public speaking is a great fear most people have, next to death. So, you could say that most people would prefer being in the casket at the funeral than speaking at it.
At this meeting I was appointed the Table Topics Master for the night. I always loved that task, mostly because it would break things up and it would always bring out the good stories and the creative side of all the speakers involved.
The Table Topics Master is in charge of the portion of the meeting that concentrates on speaking off the cuff. My job was to pick a topic and ask a member to give a talk for 2 minutes on that subject. We had enough members to ask 3 people per meeting to speak on table topics.
This meeting was the last meeting of the year and it was a few days before Christmas, so I thought I would stay with the theme and do topics around that subject.
I looked around the room at all the members I could call on. I picked Ernie. Ernie was a cool cat with a New York way of speaking. He was in sales and was a good speaker.
I looked at Ernie and motioned for him to come up to the lectern and then I asked him to tell us all about a special Christmas he had when he was a kid. He smiled and walked up beside me and I walked away and waited for a great 2 minute speech.
Ernie takes a deep breath and looks at me and he starts to speak. “Well…….I never had a Christmas with my family.” I thought oh no! I’m going to feel bad about this. All the other members looked and listened to find out more. Then He said; “I never celebrated Christmas with my family because…..I’m Jewish.” I can still see his big old smile. “I did have Christmas sort of. I would go to my friend’s house and enjoy Christmas Day with them. I also had Hanukah at my house.”
Ernie did a great job and finished his 2 minutes without missing a step. And he made me look like a winner. I’ve lost touch with old Ernie some years ago. I hope to laugh about that meeting again with him one day!
My Lesson:
So, what did I learn from that other than Ernie was Jewish and never celebrated Christmas with his family?
1 – Never assume that you know people until you really know them.
*** That is one communication and success tip that will take you far in business and in your relationships of any sort.
