Find Your Way!
Posted on March 21st, 2010 10 commentsFind Your Way!“Sunday Morning Coming Down”Kris Kristofferson wrote this song while living in a run-down tenement in Nashville and while he was working as a janitor for Columbia Records. He was told that he was not to solicit any of his songs to other artist or he would be fired.Kris Kristofferson new he need to get the attention of the artist in a unique way and that is just what he did.Kris delivered his song personally to Johnny Cash. He did that by landing his National Guard helicopter in Cash’s front yard.He took a song and a burning desire to get it published and recorded and did the best thing he could think of to get Cash’s attention. This song was #1 on the Country charts for 2 weeks in September 1970Johnny Cash recorded this song live on his show…..the network wanted him to make changes, but he did it just the way it was intended.
If you like the song or not it makes little difference…..the idea of pushing forward and getting your ideas out there in a unique way does.

I’m not a big fan of modern country but I love Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and the other old schoolers. I also love the visual of Chris landing in Johnny Cash’s yard. Now he would get thrown in Guantanamo!

Hi Lynn,
love it. Found my cleanest dirty shirt.
What a marvelous example of two men with talent, and Kris’ moving forward to fulfill his dream. Of course, also WITH talents.
Thank you for the reminders and the examples of success afterwhich we can model ourselves.

That is so interesting. I never knew that about Kris Kristofferson. I don’t remember the song (though I am old enough to) but I enjoyed it.

I had completely forgotten about this story of how Kris Kristofferson got his first song recorded by Johnny Cash.
So many people only think of Kris as an actor from movies like BLADE or A STAR IS BORN and forget completely that he is not only a great songwriter but that he was a Rhodesw Scholar at Oxford.
Hard to believe he’s 73 years old & still going strong!
