Reborn For Success In The New Year!

As we see the end of a new year let’s take a moment to look back and reflect over the past 12 months.

Was the past 12 months a busy time for you? Was the past 12 months rewarding or was it a tough time for you in your business? Did you keep your job?

 Did you have some health issues in your family as I did? Did you lose any faith or trust for the government and the Whitehouse?

I only hope that the past year was very good to you and I also hope that you will create and achieve massive success in the next 12 months.

The great thing about a New Year is that we can all look at the New Year as fresh and have excitement for the New Year. A new year marks a new beginning for dreams and goals.

Friends Gone.

As I reflect I think about the people and old friends that died over the last 12 months. We lost a great man and a pioneer in the Personal Development Field, Mr. Jim Rohn. Jim Rohn’s work and words helped so many people find massive success in their own business and in their lives. I lost some friends that I’ve known for years and years in the past few months.

If we live long enough we will see our friends leave us as time goes by. That is only a fact of life that we must deal with.

I’ve heard people say that we should live like we were dying. And I’ve had people ask; what would you do if you only had 6 months to live? All good things to ponder on and reflect about… it may make you a better person. It may help you to think about some of the things you didn’t do or the things you need to do.

I’m sure it was Mark Twain who said; we regret all the things we didn’t do more that the things we did.

New Beginning/ Reborn.

Now, I like to ask the people I coach and mentor this question. What would you do if you knew you had a new life, a new beginning and a clean slate to create the life you want and deserve?

You have that new day today if you choose! No need for regret! No need to think about all the things that you’re not doing.

Start today to think about all the things you plan to do starting in the New Year. Forget all the things you tried to do or the things you intended to do in the past and make plans for your NEW LIFE!

Most important.

Inertia is the best way to live a life of regret. You must take ACTION on all you ideas, intentions and goals to continue to move forward. Find that person that will hold you accountable and keep you on task. Those people (Mastermind Group) that will help guarantee you to create that massive success and find your true greatness for years to come.

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is here? We are already at the end of 2009 and 2010 is just around the corner.

You and I both know that once Thanksgiving is here the rest of the year is only a flicker. Think about the New Year to come and all the opportunities and resources you have now…. to really do some great things with your life.

As a kid….I remember working barefooted with that hot summer sun burning down on us in the tobacco fields. I remember not having enough energy to do much after our work, but we did have enough energy to jump in the pond for a quick swim. I remember doing much with very little back in those days.

One great memory as a kid is Thanksgiving at my Grandparents house. We had great food and lots of love to go around. My Grandma was one of the greatest cooks on the planet.

She would cook the best sweet potato pie…..the kind that you had to eat with your shoes off so you could wiggle your toes.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and create some wonderful memories.

I am so thankful for all of you.

We all have childhood memories and parts of our past that form and condition us as we grow older and become adults.

I think it is so important to keep in mind the children we influence and condition as we journey through life.

North Carolina is known for many things including NASCAR. I grew up watching NASCAR until they got so commercial and forgot the small tracks and towns that helped make them a rich organization.

Watching NASCAR, I did learn some things about team work, tenacity and one important tactic called drafting.

Drafting was discovered by stock car racers in the 1959 Daytona 500. Drivers found they picked up speed running closely behind other cars, and as they experimented they found that a line of cars could sustain higher speeds than a single car running by itself.

I also learned about drafting from my Dad. My Dad drove a Tractor Trailer (18 Wheeler) for over 24 years. He was a very hard worker and was an excellent driver. When we would go on trips, long or short trips I would learn so much from his driving skills.

Success Drafting

We can use this idea in success and personal development. Success Drafting can be applied by following along behind the most successful people you know. As you build your momentum you will be able to maintain that momentum by following in their draft. And as we gain in our efforts and actions we will start to notice that the successful person we follow will keep us in that forward draft of motion.

We operate much better in that draft than we do on our own.

When we draft success we conserve our energy, learn the best directions to travel and we can avoid the accidents that are on the track to success and personal development.

A great fighter once said, “I can handle the shots I see, but the shots I don’t see are the ones that hurt.”

In the fight game you train to take a hit so when you do get hit in the fight you can fortify yourself for the blow.

Taking The Hit

On the other hand, when you get hit on your blindside you never have the chance to prepare and that my friend hurts.

Life will also hit you from your blindside from time to time with a new challenge or a surprise you never expected and it may take you out of the game for a short time.

I believe the reason most people become so successful after the age of 40 is because they are not so consumed with all the hoops that life puts in the way to jump through. They have been through many trials and know many other people that have too and that helps to prepare them for the unknown.  

They take it in stride and continue to push forward toward their goals.

Resilience

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from the unexpected.

My 4 year old nephew Ethan and I were playing last week. He turned to run from me and ran into a dresser. The corner of the dresser was at his eye level and I thought the worse as he started to scream while holding his face.

As I checked it out I was relieved to find that it hit him just below his cheek and it split the inside of his lip a bit.

After about 5 minutes the bleeding stopped and within 15 minutes he was playing hard again.

Kids have the resilience we as adults should all strive to obtain.

Action steps.

1.      Think what if.

2.      Learn to gain resilience like a kid.

3.      Make a change if needed.

4.      Learn from the experience.

5.      Change approach if needed and continue.
