  • What Is Your Purpose?

Posted on April 7th, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 19 comments

Victor Frankl, psychologist and author of man’s search for meaning said, “Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone’s task is unique as his specific opportunity to implement it.

As a young boy I had a poster on the wall in my room. It was a picture of a very busy and crowded city street. The city was full of confusion. People everywhere, crowded streets, with signs and billboards. The words across the top of the poster ask the question: “Why am I here?”

My question to you is why are you here? What is your purpose on this earth? Maybe you’ve asked yourself that question before. Maybe you know your purpose, but you’ve never made the decision to act on it.

Peter Drucker says, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

The majority of people never live a life of purpose because it takes hard work and discipline. Most people just settle for what comes along. They live the life of quiet desperation. They talk about what they should do and dream big dreams, but never go forward. A life without action is a life without purpose.

Success has been studied and researched for years. We have more information on success today than ever before and one outstanding similarity is that the winners in life all have a major definite purpose.

Some people have a goal to get up and go to work. Then they go back home to sit down in front of the television have a couple of beers and go to bed, only to do the same thing the next day and the next day and the next day.

If you don’t have a major purpose in your life, you will always be bound under the power of the people who do. I believe that many people you find in hospitals, prisons, and in the court system are without a major definite purpose. Without purpose you have no compelling future to look forward to.

I worked as an EMT in my twenties and witnessed people without a compelling future many times. On one occasion we got a call to a railroad crossing in a little out of the way country town. The call was that a train hit a man on the track. As I was driving to the scene I was trying to imagine what to expect. I was thinking of different scenarios in my mind. We didn’t know if this person was alive, if he was in a vehicle or what. So I was trying to prepare myself for action.

When we got there I could see the end of the train way down the track and a figure of a body laying on the track about thirty feet away from the crossing. Then I realized that it was a man that had been ran over by this train. We later found out by a witness that this man had sat there on the tracks for hours drinking beer waiting on this train. And just at the last second as the train was roaring down the track this man stood up in front of the train and his life ended in a tragic way. I have no doubt that this man had no definite purpose in his life to look forward to.

When you find your purpose, you find who you are, what you are and most importantly why you are.

  • Fast and Furious

Posted on April 6th, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 22 comments

Fast and Furious is my approach to success and achievement. Many have asked what the

    Warrior of Success means.

I believe we all must be Warriors of Success and Achievement. All successful warriors down through history have lived by a code that made them successful.

Zig Ziglar, Sylvester Stallone, Les Brown, Brian Tracy and yes our own Kevin Hogan are all Warriors of Success.

Warriors of Success have to work hard just like the warrior in the battle field.

We can all adapt that code, apply it in our day to day life and live the life we strive for and deserve.

I have trained people from Special Forces, FBI, Police Officers and Town and City Officials. They all want the same thing.

They want to achieve their mission, succeed at life, build confidence to take life on and they have a need to contribute and grow.

I will give you some insight into this code over the next few weeks. I’ve compiled this information after 25 years of study and research.

    See you tomorrow.

  • Stress To Success!

Posted on April 5th, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 19 comments

The word stress is a word that elicits a range of emotions. Most of the time the word stress, produces the negative thought or emotion.

But, we do have times in our life when stress is a very good thing.

When we go through things that we can learn and grow from are some good reasons to welcome stress.

On the other hand too much stress can start to break down your attitude, health, relationships and your happiness.

I teach a stress workshop from time to time and I like to use the example of the martial arts because that’s what I know well.

“I can manipulate a person’s joints and apply pressure and stress to control that person. But, if I apply too much stress the joint will be compromised and cause injury and damage to that joint. The same is true to the pressures we go thought day by day.”

Today is Sunday. We start a new week in the morning and I want to give you guys a gift to help you relax, renew, refresh and re-fire yourself for next week.

So take a listen to this video when you get the chance. Be sure you are not going to be disturbed or drivingJ

  • Never Ending Contribution

Posted on April 4th, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 19 comments

    Never Ending Contribution

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens for another.” Charles Dickens

We learn by teaching. When we teach others about ourselves and any new insights, we also learn from the teaching process. This is similar to the martial artist teaching his students over and over as he sharpens his own skills.

What are you contributing to this world? We all get the gift of life and some of us use it wisely and others use it up and waste it.

Wisely means to live, learn, grow and then master your life in a way so you are thankful for everything in it. You must live at a level of mastery so you have the ability to contribute to others on your journey. Einstein was asked once, “Why are we here?” He replied, “To serve others…what else could it be?”

In serving others you serve yourself by the universal Law of Reciprocity.

This universal truth along with many others seems to be lost in the frenzy around the book, The Secret. The Law of Reciprocity is the law that states what you give into the Universe is what you will get back.

“Give and it will be given to you” Luke 6:38

    The Law of Reciprocation

To some people this idea or principle is outdated and antiquated. The great thing about universal laws is they remain the same through time if you believe them or not. They always remain. And this one is no different. This can also be known as the natural Law of Reciprocation.

As Jesus put it, “You reap what you sow.”

The Law of Reciprocation says that we are always trying to even out the deeds done for us or against us. The great speaker and author Zig Ziglar told me once, “You can have everything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

Until I understood the Law of Reciprocity I never understood what Zig was saying. I know now that Zig was saying that by helping others you also help yourself. Just by the act of helping others you put into motion the effect of this natural law.

The actions we take, good or bad return to us as a boomerang. Successful people are always doing more than is asked of them. Successful people and successful businesses are always going that extra mile. This is how they control the compensation or the things that boomerang back to them by what they put in. Because this is the Law of Sowing and Reaping, when you take every opportunity that comes your way to help others, you will open the door for others to give you all the help you need.

Quality returns or rewards call for quality contributions. When you contribute the things in life such as honesty, hard work, forgiveness, and being helpful and generous, you will get rewards such as riches and the respect you deserve from other people.

You can enhance your rewards and returns by the way you give of yourself. If you give out of a sense of duty or you give grudgingly you are sowing a bad seed. If you plan to give, give with a friendly spirit.

Give with enthusiasm. The spirit in which you give is always more important than the gift itself. Just the simple act of listening to a person’s problems with an empathetic mind can do wonderful things for the both of you. Another way to enhance the reward is by never letting the right moment of giving pass you by. When that moment has passed it is gone. Even a day, hour or minute later, the moment may have lost its edge. If you plan to give and miss the moment, give anyway, but strive for the best moment.

The great thing about enthusiasm is that if you don’t have it you can cultivate it as a habit very quickly and easily. Just by pretense you can have it. When you wake in the morning just jump out of bed and get the feeling of enthusiasm flowing in you. Be thankful for the life you have and the life you know you can have. Be thankful for the world of events and opportunities that are waiting for you to discover. Be thankful for the ability you have to control your own destiny. Just by having these thoughts and feeling for about 15 to 20 days you will create the habits of enthusiasm.

One last idea on giving. There are countless ways to give and receive. Many ways to Sow and Reap.

The simplest gift of the heart with a giving spirit can be worth more than any amount of money. Money can’t buy you the warm gifts of the heart. Money can buy you a house, but not a home. Money can buy you a companion, but not a marriage. Money can buy a person’s time, but not a friend. Give yourself. It’s the spirit, not the substance.

We live in a world of givers and takers. So many takers complain about how life is unfair and sucks for them without realizing that they are creating an emotional and financial deficit in their own life.

The universe keeps a score card of credits and debits which you create with your actions and thoughts. Imagine a list with credits on the one side and debits on the other. All the credits come from your contributions of emotional investments toward others. All your debits come from the negative emotions you create.

Thinks about all the thoughts, ideas, negative remarks, gossip, complaints and actions you make toward another person or a situation you’re in.

When I say this to a taker they reply, “But life’s not fair.” They’re right! Life’s not fair when a 2-year-old boy is in the burn center with second and third degree burns over 60% of his body after a parent put scalding hot water on him. Life’s not fair when my wife is battling cancer and I watch her go through the pain and sickness.

They’re right! Life’s not fair. But it’s life. We all must deal with what is and do our best to work through it. It’s easy to look for the worst life has to offer. But life pays better returns when we make a conscious choice to give back the best we can.

    Action Plan

    1. Be grateful for every new day!

    2. Find a worthy cause to give to.

    3. Always be encouraging and give others hope.

    4. Lift others up every chance you can.

  • Obama Promised Change. Are You Waiting For Change?

Posted on April 3rd, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 19 comments

    rlynnlane-bluebk2

A few years ago John Mayer performed a song at the Grammy Awards called Waiting on the World to Change.” I love John Meyer’s music and the way he plays guitar. He says that Stevie Ray Vaughn was a guitar hero of his so that makes John all right in my book.

As much as I like John and his music, this one song he sang at the Grammy’s made me think. It made me think about how so many people just set around waiting on the world to change, when they have the power to make changes themselves.

Decide today to become a change driver and don’t wait for the world to change until you start to live the life you want.

You don’t need people to approve you or agree with you and you don’t have to follow the crowd.

By making the choice to fulfill a goal or a dream you set in motion a chain of events that will lead you to your focused wants. You will have times when you’ll think you don’t have the courage or the strength to move forward.

You’ll have times when things will roll on like clockwork. The hardest times will be when you have a short coming, a short-term failure.

The people who are the most successful in this world are the ones who failed the most, too. So learn to fail faster and get the failures out of the way. Every time you have a failure you are one step closer to your goal.

If you make a mistake, then take what you have learned and change your approach and move forward. Failure is a tool to help us refine our approach on the way to our goals.

Failure is only failure if we don’t learn something from it.

The power is in you, use it now!

    1. Except failure as a tool and let it serve you, not defeat you.

    2. Learn to fail fast.

    3. Learn from your failures

    4. You can always change your approach.

    5. When life knocks you down you can give up or get up.

    6. You have the power of choice

    7. Take responsibility for every area of your life.

    Dare to be Great!

  • Pushing Forward.

Posted on April 2nd, 2009 R. Lynn Lane 15 comments

    thinking

Has this year been hard for you? Have you had to endure some bumps in the road of life?
We all will at some piont. That’s just a part of life. Murphy’s Law says that what ever can go wrong will go wrong and when you don’t need it. We all will have a visit from Murphy. I heard Les Brown once say that the only people that never have problems are the ones in the graveyards.

The bad thing about problems is that people let problems stop them from going forward. For some people it’s the best excuse to stop in life. To stop pushing forward toward a goal or a dream.

I keep a quote in my office by Babe Ruth that says…Don’t let the idea of striking out keep you from swinging. Babe Ruth always swung as hard as he could. At times he swung so hard he would hit the ground. He held a homerun record that took years to break. On the other hand he struck out many many times.
The great thing about problems or “situations” is that we have a chance to learn from them and change our approach if needed. The most successful people on the planet will tell you that to succeed you have to fail in the process. You don’t have one without the other.

Check out this poem by Jill Wolf:
Don’t quit when the tide is lowest, For it’s just about to turn; Don’t quit over doubts and questions, For there’s something you may learn. Don’t quit when the night is darkest, For it’s just a while ’til dawn; Don’t quit when you’ve run the farthest, For the race is almost won.
Don’t quit when the hill is the steepest, For your goal is almost nigh; Don’t quit, for your not a failure Until you fail to try.

Have A Great Day And Keep Pushing Forward!
